“R&D studies to lower costs and raise productivity”
All of us are concerned with global warming. Therefore we have to abide by certain resolution documents. It was mentioned in previous presentations, there are international conventions on the subject and here greenhouse gass emissions should be reduced by 20% even 30% if targets are reached. Energy consumption is needed to be lowered 20%. Besides the 20% of energy requirements should be provided from renewable sources.
In 2008 EU 5% of energy consumption was supplied by wind power. Of course this varies from country to country. This is an average, in Denmark for example, it is 15% even 19%, yet in Sweden it is around 3%. Hwever each country is trying to raise the capacity.
Wind power plants column costs are the 15-20% of the ttotal cost. This amount is set aside only for the pillars where for 1 megawatt the cost of a pillar is 350 000 Euros we can easily see the massive investments required. All these are research figures of course. Variations between different places occurs. In 2008:
* New power plants total priceis 36.5 billion Euros,
* Single plant costs 1.35 million/MW and single pillar cots 280000 Euros, then;
o 7.5 billion Euros in the world in total,
o 2.4 million Euros in Europe are the costs for pillars
But if they were built in steel of course. We have to remind ourselves that there are other competitors with other materials in the sector.
* In 2009 in Sweden to provide 1.56 GW the unit cost was calculated as 1.68 million Euro/MW. thus;
o Total RES market was 2.6 billion Euros
o Pillar market was 500 billion Euros.
