ECCS Presidency hand over once again takes place with a magnificent organization. Also in 2010 did it end with an international symposium. The subject of the symposium was “Culture and Sustainability in Steel Structures”. Now, in September 2015, you organize “8th International Steel Bridges Symposium”. Could we have the details of this organization?”
Prof. Dr. Nesrin YARDIMCI TİRYAKİOĞLU: Turkish Construction Steel Association carries out the ECCS Presidence between 9 September 2014 – 17 September 2015, therefore Istanbul will be hosting ECCS 2015 annual meetings. In this context, “8th International Symposium on Steel Structures 2015: Innovation & New Challenges”, ECCS Steel Structure Design Awards and ECCS 60th Year Anniversary celebrations will be organized.
8th International Symposium on Steel Structures will be held in Wyndham Grand Istanbul Kalamış Marina Hotel. We first established a Symposium Preparation Team to organize the event worthy of TUCSA and in accordance with the worldwide accepted criteria. As a result of the meticulous studies conducted by this team, the stakeholders of the event was determined and organization committee, secretariat and science board is established. Announcements were made to a wide audience and abstracts were collected under selected topics. Received abstracts went through preliminary assessment and preparations are on-going. Although the subject is very specific, there has been an astonishing interest and more than 150 applications from 32 countries were made for abstracts.
We are under preparation for a heavy schedule. We will have simultaneous sessions in 3 separate halls during 3.5 days. World-renowned experts will come to Turkey and share their opinions as special guests. We will have technical visits to projects around Turkey in which the engineering community around the world have great interest. Steel Structure Design Awards held biennially by ECCS will take place in Istanbul in the programme of this symposium. Architects, engineers, steel manufacturers and owners of projects executed in Turkey and many countries abroad will receive their awards in this event in Istanbul. We will also have joyous activities in the evenings during the event. Programme starting with a boat trip in the bosphorus at the first night will be glamourized with the Gala Night to be held in Adile Sultan Palace. At the last night of the symposium, representatives of the industry in Turkey will have the chance to meet with ECCS representatives in the ECCS Dinner.
ECCS General Board Meetings prepared with the symposium will also be held again in Wyndham Hotel on 16-17 September 2015. Committee Presidents Meeting and finally ECCS General Board Meeting will be held in Istanbul.
