"Actually steel has always got the attention of the architects as a construction technique and material. It is mostly perceived in a structural sense, but we look at it as something that can contribute to structure architecture. We care a lot about steel structures and we actually wish to have more opportunity and experience on them.
The biggest challenge in steel structure is to convince the employer or the investor. The rest is easier if you ask me. You create a qualified structure with steel. Because when you work with steel you also need to work with a qualified group. Let's say that you could work with unqualified workers for the engineering, manufacture and installation for the reinforced concrete or conventional construction technique but you need a qualified organization for steel. For this reason when you build with steel you ensure a certain level of quality.
In the architect's mind steel is a material that contributes to design. The most prominent feature of steel is that it is lighter than reinforced concrete and it has a potential to reflect this on the architecture. Steel also gets along with different materials. For a example in a good design it gives delightful results with concrete, wood, brick or glass. Seeing good examples in public spaces of the city may create great opportunities for steel."
