“WE ARE FOR USING MORE STEEL”
Mustafa DEMIR, vice chair, INTES (Turkish Construction Industrialists Union)
“Turkey since 1972 has realised 56 hundred projects worth 178 billion dollars in 83 countries. I can convey the last decade: international contracts undertaken in billions dollars were 2.4 in 2001, 2.4 in 2002, 4.1 in 2003, 10.6 in 2004, 11.2 in 2005, 20.4 in 2006, 24.5 in 2007, 24 in 2008 which is a year of crisis, 21 in 2009, and 15 in 2010. Turkish contractors used to seek minor projects but now they are gradually shouldering bigger and more prestigious projects which are usually steel carcass structures globally. Steel structures are significant in their stability, earthquake and many other advantages.
I do emphasize the fact that we have to employ these benefits as investors, designers, and producers and am personally for using more steel which is an integral part of the modern buildings.”
