Turkish construction companies have stepped out to the foreign countries firstly at beginning of 1970s, and nowadays are working more than 120 countries. According to the 2019 data, ENR magazine stated that maximum number of construction contractors belong to China with 76 companies. The second one is Turkey with 44 companies, but the income for Turkey is not so remarkable. Companies are able to analyse all production / construction process after cyber technologies such as internet of things (IoT), big data and cloud information system, so that, they can make their decisions more precisely and correctly.
Above mentioned changes are forcing the companies to keep in step with new technologies. In order to succeed, conventional construction methods should convert to industrial construction techniques by effectively using the followings:
• Prefabricated and modular construction systems
• Building information modelling (BIM) and augmented / virtual reality (VR)
• Project management integrated with BIM and drone
• 3D printing technologies
As listed below, modular construction systems provides many advantages especially for the duplicated type buildings such as school, hospitals, dormitories and hotels:
• Fast completion (approximately 50% faster)
• Lower cost (approximately 35%)
• Higher quality
• Minimising H&S risks at site
• Minimising negative effects to the environment
• Ability to work in different places required
• Higher value added.
