The construction of the main passenger building and the complexes around started in year 2006. New Doha International Airport Passenger Terminal was designed to handle 48 million passengers per year, was conducted by Sky Oryx Joint Venture (JV) composed of TAV Construction and Japanese Taisei. TAV Construction was the main contractor of the project, of which the price was told to be around 3,5 billion USD. Besides, Turkish companies, which are separately experts in their field, took place as sub contractors in reinforced concrete and electro mechanic works, as well as the installation of the steel structures of the building.
TAV Construction - Taisei JV realized the first 2 stages of the project, which was planned as 3 stages. JV initially completed the 240.000 m2 area, after that 130.000 m2 area, and parallel to this 135.000 m2 additional expansion work, which is a great project of 505.000 m2 in total. Another joint venture achieved the third part of the project, which is 150.000 m2. The New Doha International Airport Passenger Terminal took its place in the aviation field with these three main parts, as a great complex of 655.000 m2.
270.000 m3 concrete and 70.000 tons of steel (except the secondary elements used for the exterior surface) was used in the packages handled by TAV Construction – Taisei joint venture. In total, 193.000 m2 steel trapeze, 194.000 m2 gypsum board walls, 180,000 m2 external surface, 444.000 m2 metal and gypsum ceiling, 181.000 m2 terrazzo flooring and 4.300 fire resistant automatic controlled doors were installed successfully. In addition to these, 70 km of the cooled water pipe line and 4.000 km electric cables were installed.
Together with steel works in the project, all the main international standards and specifications were used. With a significant success about work safety, TAV Construction completed its works in the project, in which millions of man-hour working was realized by more than 23.000 workmen, engineers and office staff, with no fatal accidents that may cause time losses.
