KARS AIRPORT DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL TERMINAL ARCHITECTURAL STATEMENT
Regional and locally manufactured products have been used throughout the structure, providing economy in construction. Natural products manufactured especially in Kars and surrounding areas have been used.
Considering the climate conditions, use of local materials will prolong the economic life of the structure. It has been planned to use steel material for the top layer of the structure. With the manufacture of the planned top layer in workshops and assembly on site, construction period has been shortened considerably. Saving is possible by spreading the site to the area. Steel top structure has been left as it is and no suspended ceiling has been suggested, hence construction cost has been reduced, effect of ceiling system at spaces has been achieved and a special characteristic has been given to the structure. General characteristics of interior spaces can be described as regional stone material on the floor, steel on the roof and landscape zones at the perimeter.
Horizontal gutters have been suggested at roof eaves. However, gutters at the entrances have been designed to prevent dripping on passengers and details of roof eaves at the entrances have been provided to prevent water dripping.
Snow catchers have been provided on roof surfaces. Therefore, uncontrolled movement of snow on the roof has been prevented.
Special attention has been paid for flexible use of the structure designed as domestic and international terminal. Boarding bridges have been provided to enable domestic and international use. Domestic airplanes can park at the international boarding bridge and vice versa. This flexibility will enable the increase of passenger capacity. VIP airplane park area has been considered at the front of VIP lounges, enabling departure and arrival of VIP passengers.
