“Turkey is in an advantageous position in renewable energy resources”
Between 1970–80 effective usage of energy started but around 80s they said it was not enough. OECD countries came together for International Energy Agency and started technological research projects, decided to investigate wind power technologies and each country’s enery ministers signed the convention, put forward 20-30 thousand Euros for techological developments. Till 1980 there was no wind farms. In 1850 it was tried unsuccessfully. America led the way brought tax abatement, created a market. Germany, Denmark, Holland developed technologies, founded new companies. Since 1980 a region in California supplies wind power for all its needs servicing a million inhabitants. In 1966, RES technologies of 600 kw came to light. Germany invested in this and today they have 15000 Billion Euro invested. In 2010 the technological disconnection is overcome, there are 3 requirements for any technology tobe in use: 1. Source, 2. Technology, 3. Public Administration. The decision makers should be for solution rather then problem. Up till now the decision making mechanisms were always based on fossil fuels and nuclear energy and natural gas because of economic and international relations. On the other hand 28 million come for the sun to Turkey we are advantagad this way. About wind the potential capacity is around 150 000 MW now. It depends on the data you pick. Above 40 000 at least anyway. Also in geo thermal we are advantaged. What I want to say is Turkey has no lacking in resources in renewable energy. Globlly wind power technologies is rapidly improving. Recently China has passed the US. The list goes now as China-USA and Germany. Provincial and local administrtions in China bestow huge incentives; there are wind farms where 5000 people are working. They are rapidly growing. Now globally there is 200.000 MW wind power, and 400.000 MW nuclear power which are nearing the end of their lives are will be closed down. Costs are calculated. China is anticipating to establish 500.000 MW wind power plants, European countries 500.000 MW. To conclude, there is the resources and the technology in Turkey for using wind energy, so it is up to the decision makers from now on. Those windless countries are supporting other with credits, selling their technologies. Countries like ours with plenty of sun and wind should be for these technologies. In general we assume the technology will develop in 30 years or so, not quite so. We do not have to be the collector of othher countries waste. We can convert to 100% renewable energy in 5 years employing our own tecnologies, which can not be realised by signing new natural gas contracts.
